Former President Jonathan has yesterday accused African political leaders of becoming coups plotters that were formerly identified in military juntas instead of entrenching good governance. Jonathan made this allegation during the 17th convocation ceremony of the Igbenedion University Okada, Edo state after being conferred with an honorary doctorate degree of science.

He said considering the politics of our African continent, making reference to some of them who was the former head of governments, their vice presidents, the former president was worried that African politicians are systematically replacing military coups with civilian coups going by their posture of governance, saying this spell doom for the African continent.

The former president urged political leaders to desist from killing their subject they swore to protect because they want to occupy political offices.

Making reference with the recent gubernatorial election that took place in Bayelsa and Kogi state, Jonathan condemned the atrocity meted on an innocent soul of a PDP woman leader who was burnt alive in her resident just to gain a political office. He said no sane society will condone such atrocity in the name of politicking. He concluded by saying something is fundamentally wrong with our political system.

He added that what distinguishes someone in a society is not the power of his office but his natural talent and how he was able to manage his subject.

Jonathan commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University for being the first person to establish an airline company and a private University as his contribution for the Nigerian development, urging him to revive the airline as the industry is opening up.
