Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) say the International Maritime Bureau has removed Nigeria from its red list describing the action as a landmark achievement for the country as it will boost the country’s economy in the Gulf of Guinea. The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh stated this when he was signing the memorandum of understanding with the Nigeria institute of Transport Technology, NITT Zaria.

Mr. Jamoh revealed that the development was courtesy of the Deep Blue Project inauguration that was signed by the President Buhari administration last year as the security measure adopted has yielded a positive result.

The NIMASA boss said, “Since its inauguration, the country has recorded zero piracy attacks throughout this year.

He added, “And this is no doubt a tremendous success, especially on the part of NIMASA and the entire nation’s transport industry as a whole,”

The DG explained that partnering between NIMASA and NITT as signed on maritime research and training was targeted at developing manpower capacity and effective service delivery and that is exactly what the agency seeks to achieve.

Responding, the Director General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Salih-Farah, said the MoU would strengthen the working relationship between the agencies and is expected to yield a fruitful collaboration on the maritime security concerns of the nation. Daily trust.
