Senate president Bukola Saraki has today set Thursday as a timeline for appropriation committee to submit the 2019 budget report. Sunny Ogbuoji, the vice chairman of the appropriation committee revealed that only 24 out of the 61 sub-committee have so far submitted their reports.

 

Saraki insisted the budget must be on his table by Thursday, April 11 ahead of the April 16 set for approval of the money bill.

The Senate president revealed the appropriation committee will be compelled to use Executive submission failure of the sub-committee to put forward their reports to the committee by Wednesday.


In his statement, Saraki said, “It is unfortunate that only 24 committees were able to submit their reports. Last week, the house took a decision that we are not going to waiver on our position. Our position is very clear: that all committees should submit (their budget reports). And failure to do so, then the Appropriations Committee should use the Executive submission.


He added, that the position of the Senate still holds, meanwhile, he appealed to all the committees that they have only tomorrow (Wednesday) to ensure that their report reaches the appropriation committee as Thursday should be the last date.


The Senate president directs the vice chairman on the appropriation that if the committee failed to submit their report by tomorrow Wednesday, then the Executive submission should be used. However, insisted on the Thursday dateline.
