The House of Representative has yesterday called on Nigerian Custom Service to review ban on fuel supply to filling stations located 20km to border communities to ease the hardship of the communities.
The call was a follow up to the motion forwarded by, Sada Soli Jibiya (APC Katsina) who said that the ban has inflicted hardship on communities living close to border areas.
Jibiya revealed the ban has caused more hardship to the border communities than expected, saying the directive has gone contrary to the act establishing the Nigerian Customs service (as amended).
Jibiya, whom his constituency is located along the border community between Nigeria and Niger Republic, complained that being the peoples representative, his community is badly hit with the Custom directive more than other communities of Nigeria.
He added, ideally alternative means should have been provided to the affected communities to cushion the effect despite the fact that Nigerian economy is directly dependent on petroleum products.
Meanwhile, he called on the Department of Petroleum Resources whose sole responsibility is regulating the downstream sector should as a matter of urgency work towards alleviating people's hardship.
