The Federal Government has on Wednesday disbursed N43,416 billion ($120.6 million) to 24 States as a performance-based grant under the World Bank-Assisted States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS).

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed made this known in a statement issued by Hassan Dodo, the Ministry's Director of Press and Public Relations in Abuja.

The World Bank-Assisted SFTAS programme-for-results is in line with Federal Government's efforts in enhancing transparency, accountability and sustainability in the use of resources by states. It also aims at rewarding states for demonstrating improvements in their fiscal.

According to the statement, States were carefully selected based on meeting or showing signs of improvement under their 2018 performance assessment.

"the disbursement followed the participation of the 24 eligible states in the recent Annual Performance Assessment (APA)."

She explained that the assessment was carried out by the office of the Auditor-General for the Federation as an Independent Verification Agent, while also in collaboration with JK Consulting Limited, as a third party firm and SFTAS Programme Coordination Unite (PCU).

The Minister noted that the $750 million under the programme was for enhancing the capacity of the selected states.

"The DLIs are derived from the country’s 22-Point Fiscal Sustainability Plan and the 14 Open Government Partnership (OGP) commitments aimed at strengthening fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability across all States of the Federation," She said.

She also said that the grant could not have come at a better time, especially with the fight against the pandemic.

The benefitting states include Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe States.

Kaduna received the highest with N3.960 billion while Benue and Katsina received the lowest with N540 million each.
