Metered Electricity Customers In Nigeria Rise To 5.47 Million

The number of metered electricity customers in Nigeria has increased to 5.47 million in the second quarter of 2023. The National Bureau of Statistics’ (NBS) latest data on ‘Nigeria Electricity Report Q2 2023: Energy Billed, Revenue Generated And Customers By DISCOS’ disclosed this on Friday. Accordingly, the 5.47 million metered electricity customers figure represented a 3.10 per cent increase from the 5.31 million recorded in Q1 2023. In a combined figure, the total number of electricity customers in Q2 2023 stood at 11.47 million from 11.27 million in Q1 2023.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has pledged a good working relationship with the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, to ensure adequate and efficient overtime cargo that has been congesting the port since 2011.

NELMCO: President Tinubu Appoints New MD/CEO, ED

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the appointment of Mrs. Mojoyinoluwa Dekalu-Thomas as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) for a tenure of four years. She served as the acting MD/CEO since the term of the pioneer MD/CEO, Mr Adebayo Fagbemi expired on May 8, 2023.

FG Issues Illegal Miners 30-Day Ultimatum

The Federal Government (FG) has issued a 30-day ultimatum to illegal miners in the country to desist from such illegal activities and join a miners’ cooperative. This was made known on Sunday by Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development during the launch of the ‘Agenda for the Transformation of the Solid Minerals for International Competitiveness and Domestic Prosperity’.

NBS: Nigeria’s Unemployment Rate Dropped To 4.1%

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed that the country’s unemployment rate dropped from 5.3 percent to 4.1% in the first quarter (Q1) of 2023. The Bureau made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, stating that new methodology was used to for the latest unemployment report.

GTCO Records Pre-tax Profit Of N327.4bn 

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, has recorded profit before tax of 327.4bn in the first half of 2023 financial period. The company revealed the above in its Audited Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements for H1’23 released to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) and London Stock Exchange (LSE). “The Group reported profit before tax of N327.4bn, representing an increase of 217.1 per cent over N103.2bn recorded in the corresponding period ended June 2022,” the statement said.

Prepaid Meters: NERC Advises Update Before November 2024

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has advised users of prepaid meters to update their meters for free before November next year. The Commission disclosed this development in a post issued on its official X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday.

FG to Shut Murtala Muhammed International Airport from October 1

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has instructed all airlines to vacate the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from 1st October 2023, for total maintenance work to be done. The minister made this public during a tour at the international airport in Lagos, where he was accompanied by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed. The minister, while speaking at the sideline of the airport tour, directed the airlines and companies operating in the airport to move to the new terminal MMIA Terminal 2.

Treasury Management Registrar Caution FG against Naira Re-denomination

The registrar of the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management, Olumide Adedoyin, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu’s government on the alleged plan to re-denominate the naira, saying it would threaten economic stability.
Adedoyin said this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday against the backdrop of an alleged plan to re-denominate the naira. He said a strategic focus on government Investment for economic stability rather than currency re-denomination would suffice. According to him, re-denomination may provide a temporary solution to the exchange rate fluctuation, but it does not address the root causes of the volatility.

FG Compensates Abuja Indigenes N825.8bn for Runway Construction

The Federal Government through its FCT Minister, Nyesome Wike has announced that N825.819 billion will be given as compensation along with other incentives for indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to pave the way for the construction of the 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Part of the incentives are the construction of a 5km bridge in the Tunga Madaki community and the provision of a modern healthcare facility expected to serve as a temporary resettlement site for the indigenes.

FG Plans To Lift 133m Nigerians Out Of Poverty-Betta Edu

The new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu has disclosed that the Federal Government (FG) is committed to lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty. She made this known on Monday at a meeting with heads of agencies under the ministry, after the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed ministers.
