NOSDRA Begins Monitoring Of Oil Spill, Gas Flare

The Federal Government on Monday announced that it has commenced tracking and monitoring of oil spillage and gas flaring in the Niger Delta region. Mr. Idris Musa, Director-General of the Nigerian Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) made the announcement during the receiving and launch ceremony of the platforms in Abuja.

 

He said the platform will provide accurate data on the magnitude of the gas flared, and oil spilled as well indicate the sites and companies operating the facilities.

Musa explained that the platform will aid transparency in the activities of the agency, and also has the measure the dollar equivalent of the gas flared and the amount it could have generated if used for power generation.

The DG further disclosed that the tools were developed by the Stakeholder Democratic Network (SDN), with funding from the Facility for Oil Sector Transparency and Reform, (FOSTER).

Meanwhile, the platforms are 'www.nosdra.oilspillmonitor.ng' and 'www.nosdra.gasflaretracker.ng'
