The organised labour on Thursday warned that under no circumstance would any state chapter of labour accept the renegotiation of the new national minimum wage from any governor when the deal has been signed and sealed.
Ayuba Waba, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), made this declaration in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital while presiding over the election of the new leadership of the NLC of the state.
Mr, Waba revealed that the Nigerian workers by this his declaration are presumed to be under strict instruction to only accept N30,000 from their governors or nothing.
The NLC national chairman made clarification that, the new minimum wage now has a binding force, having gone through the approval by the two chambers of the National Assembly and signed into law by Mr President.
He said that the excuses being made by some governors that they could not pay the new wage was an afterthought and should not be accepted.
At the conference where, Olatunde Kolapo, the former Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Ekiti State University Branch, who was elected as the new state chairman, Mr Waba vowed that the new wage cannot be renegotiated under any pretext.
Mr Kolapo emerged unopposed among other executive members that were elected.
Mr Wabba, whose address was delivered by an ex-officio member of the Congress, Maureen Onyia-Ekwuazi, said the NLC would not take anything short of N30,000 as minimum wage from state governors since it had become “a law binding on everybody”.
