Coronavirus: Nigeria Received A Donation Of €26m From Germany

The Government of Germany has yesterday announced the donation of €26m to support Nigeria’s effort in the fighting of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

 

The German Mission in Nigeria made the declaration of the donation yesterday, saying the said assistance was in demonstration of its solidarity and corporation with Nigeria amid the fight of the global pandemic of the coronavirus.

It noted that the said fund would be utilized in providing humanitarian assistance in the Northeast which was ravaged by Boko Haram especially, Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.

The statement partly reads;

“Germany would continue to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states, aiming to support the Nigerian Government with a view to protecting the most vulnerable groups and meeting the humanitarian needs.”

‘The German government is providing additional financial support of €26m for humanitarian assistance in Northeast Nigeria and bordering regions in Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.”

The mission further explained that €8m would go to the UN World Food Programme in Nigeria, while €7m would be channeled to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Nigeria, also €5m would be utilized to the UN  Food and Agricultural Organisation in Nigeria.

Also, it added, €3.5m shall be appropriated to Caritas International, and €2.5m would be spent by the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund.
