President Emmanuel Macron of France has inaugurated the France-Nigeria Business Council, a private sector scheme created to improve business relations between the 2 countries. Nigeria’s wealthiest men including Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote; BUA Group President, Abdul Samad Rabiu; Globacoms founder, Mike Adenuga and founder of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu were in attendance for the council’s meeting.

Macron has also appointed the founder and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu as the first president of the council.

In response to his appointment, Rabiu said, “Nigeria is blessed with numerous potentials for French companies to do business across different areas.

“Where French businesses have formerly been risk-averse or outrightly unable to do business with Africa’s largest economy, they can now be assured of a platform through which they can penetrate and mutually grow the market.

“Where Nigerian companies had not seen French companies or the French market as a viable destination due to lack of information, they can now be sure of a platform to facilitate this. This is all thanks to President Macron’s foresight and vision.”

The French president reiterated his country’s support to improve business opportunities between the 2 countries.

Nigerian members of the council are Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote; Founder of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu; Gilbert Chagoury of Chagoury Group and CEO, Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.

President Buhari has applauded Rabiu’s appointment as the council’s president stating it highlights the growing relationship and collaboration between Nigeria and France.
