The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun State Command, says it has intercepted 4,500 cartons of frozen poultry products with an estimated duty paid value of N21.6m smuggled into the State illegally. The Ogun Area Controller of Customs, Sani Magudu, who disclosed this on Monday at the command headquarters, said the frozen products were loaded in 10 vehicles.

The products were seized by officers of the Command along the Idiroko border-posts after they were adjudged to be detrimental to health or fit for human consumption.

He added that the items were being smuggled into Nigeria from the neighboring Benin Republic with some used vehicles before they were intercepted.

The Customs Area Controller noted that the importation of such products into the country remained banned in accordance with the directive of the Federal Government.

The Ogun customs boss advised smugglers to follow due process by paying the necessary duties on their goods, or be ready to lose them. He stated that the command is determined to stop illegalities in the Area of operation.
