The Federal Government (FG) has removed Mr. Chukwuyere Anamekwe and appointed a new acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Okolieaboh Sylvis, a former Director of the Treasury Single Account (TSA). According to reports, Anamekwe was replaced because he was “under the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over corruption allegations”, however, this development has not yet been confirmed by top government officials.
Anamekwe was appointed on May 22, 2022, following the suspension and investigation of the previous Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris over allegations of fraud to the tune of N80 billion.
Anamekwe’s replacement, Mr. Sylis is due for retirement in the first quarter of 2023, so the Federal Government through the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has reportedly issued a circular to that effect.
According to the circular, Permanent Secretaries should forward details of eligible directors on Grade Level 17 on or before 4 pm, on Wednesday 6 July 2022.
The circular further stated that eligible nominees must have attained Grade Level 17 on or before January 1, 2020, should not be retiring from the service earlier than December 31, 2024, and officers undergoing disciplinary proceedings are excluded from the selection process.
