Labour Unions in the Aviation sector affiliated to the United Labour Congress (ULC) have boycotted the industrial action declared on Monday by the leadership of the Congress. The Unions shunned the directive to shut down the Nigerian airspace. The Unions include Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), Aeronautical Information Services Association of Nigeria (AISAN) and the National Association of Air Traffic Engineers (NAAE).


NAN reports that the unions had held a crucial meeting with the Management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) where they dissociated themselves from the industrial action.


Vigil360 correspondents in Abuja and Calabar, the Cross River State capital reported that activities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Margaret Ekpo International Airport went on without let or hindrance as passengers were airlifted by the various airlines operating in the country.


Recall that the ULC had declared indefinite strike on Monday following the expiration of its ultimatum. The Union had called on the Federal Government to meet its demands or face total shut down of the transport, power and petroleum sectors. It listed its demands to included immediate payment of salary arrears to all categories of workers at all levels, review of the privatization of the power sector and the release of the registration certificate for the Union among others.
