The Nigeria Customs Service has reportedly dismissed five officers suspected to have facilitated the illegal importation and eventual clearance of 661 pump action at the Tin Can Island Port, Lagos. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service, Joseph Attah who confirmed the development to newsmen stated that the five officers were found culpable in the importation of the arms, having collected bribes.

He identified the officers as Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Salihu Danjuma and Matthew Okoye who is currently at large.

Attah explained that the affected officers conspired to import the pump action from Turkey through the port using a 40-feet container and attempted to deceive other operatives at the port by claiming that it was loaded with steel doors. The 40-feet container was marked number PONU 825914/3.

The dismissed operatives, apart from attempting to bribe their colleagues in order not to search the container, also forged several document including Pre-Arrival Assessment Report, Form M and a bill of lading.

The suspects are currently being prosecuted. According to him, "the whole cases of the arms are still in court this is the much I can tell you for now. All the suspects are under prosecution.”
