The Standard Organization of Nigeria, (SON) has charged one Alhaji Modibbo Akilu, a businessman from Kebbi state to court after he was arrested with 560 bags of substandard sugar. Modibbo was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state. He had allegedly imported 560 bags of substandard sugar from Brazil through Niger and Benin Republic.
He was arrested by SON on October 28, 2017 after the consignment was impounded by officials of SON at the Birnin Kebbi Central market.
Meanwhile, the accused has pleaded not guilty and has been granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter has been adjourned to December 7, 2017 for commencement of trial.
