The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) has called on the government to immediately halt the collection of the 15% levy on wheat importation, Dailytrust reports. The National Secretary of the association, Mr. Jude Okafor Amade the call while addressing a peaceful protest in Asaba on Tuesday. He recalled that the levy which was introduced in 2012 was for the purpose of development of cassava bread.

The bakers marched through some major streets of Asaba, the Delta state capital, lamenting their plight.

Okafor said six years on, the cassava for bread initiative had clearly failed as all the components of the laudable programme had been abandoned “but the bakers are still made to pay the levy.
