The Streaming service Netflix on Monday announced that it will launch its first African original series "Queen Sono" in 2019. The series which will be made in South Africa is a drama about a secret agent fighting crime, while dealing with person life crises.

Speaking to South Africa's Independent Online (IOL), Netflix Vice President on International Originals, Erik Barmack said that there would be more production of local contents from South Africa.


"Over time our roots will get deeper in Africa and South Africa, and we're moving pretty quickly to that now, and plan to invest more in local content," he said.


"Netflix also wants to be a place where local content creators can tell their stories to a global audience."


"Queen Sono" will star Pearl Thusi, a star of a US hit series "Quantico".
