Hollywood former producer, Harvey Weinstein has on Wednesday been sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault of two women.

The 67-year-old ex-film executive was last month found guilty by a jury during a trial in New York.

While addressing the court before his sentence was handed out, Weinstein said, "I really feel remorse for this situation,"

"I feel it deeply in my heart.

I will spend my time really caring and really trying to be a better person."

"I'm not going to say that these aren't great people," speaking about his accusers.

"I've had wonderful times with these people."

However, Weinstein's lawyer, Donna Rotunno appealed for leniency as she described that even the minimum sentence of 5 years could be a "life sentence" for Weinstein.

His conviction is a win for the #MeToo movement.
