American NFL Player and Civil Rights Activist, Colin Kaepernick have announced that his production company, Ra Vision Media has signed a partnership deal with Disney Co., featuring him in an exclusive documentary series about race and social injustice produced by ESPN, the footballer said on Monday.
In line with the deal, the production company will produce scripted and unscripted stories showing the injustices and quest for equity, focusing on his life for the past five years through interviews and archival footage, also, showcasing the works minority directors, and producers.
In a statement, Kaepernick said, "I am excited to announce this historic partnership with Disney across all of its platforms to elevate Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers, and producers, and to inspire the youth with compelling and authentic perspectives.
"I look forward to sharing the docuseries on my life story, in addition to many other culturally impactful projects we are developing.
"Recall that in 2016 Kaepernick took the kneeling position during the U.S National anthem as a symbol of protest against racial injustice, police brutality, and systematic oppression.
He later became a free agent as no team wanted to sign him after his contract with his then team, San Francisco 49ers ended.
In 2017 he filed a grievance against the NFL accusing the league of blacklisting him.
Disney Executive Chairman, Bob Iger said, "Colin’s experience gives him a unique perspective on the intersection of sports, culture, and race, which will undoubtedly create compelling stories that will educate, enlighten and entertain."
