Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has on Wednesday been announced as a 'Goodwill Ambassador' for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), speaking up for women

The singer made this known in a video post on Instagram, vowing to lend her voice to vulnerable women and those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. She said, "It is an honour to be named UN goodwill ambassador to the UNDP programme, an agency whose core mission completely aligns with mine, to end poverty and to erase all forms of gender inequality."

Yemi expressed her eagerness to commence her role as she said the mission of the UNDP aligned with hers.

"Women are among the 4 billion people who are trying to survive Covid-19 without any form of social protection."
