Nigeria's Burna Boy and Rising star, Rema have been nominated for the 2020 MTV EMA awards for the 'Best African Act' category, celebrating the 27th edition of the EMAs on November 8th, 2020. Burna Boy who won the same category in 2019 thanked his fans and appreciated the network for the recognition, saying " A big thank you to my MTV family for nominating me again for this award and to my fans all over the world for listening to and supporting my music." Other African musicians nominated in the same category include Uganda's Sheebah, Gaz Mawete from DR Congo, and South Africa's Kabza de Small, Master KG, and DJ Maphorisa. Speaking on the nominations, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of ViacomCBS Networks Africa, Monde Twala said, "The 2020 MTV EMAs is one of the biggest entertainment stages in the world and this year's African nominees are undoubtedly making their presence felt globallly. This affirms our commitment to ensuring that we continue to celebrate our diverse talent on international platforms. Congratulations to all our African nominees on this achievement."
Also, International stars nominated for the EMAs include Lady Gaga bag seven nominations, leading this year's EMA nominee list. Just Bieber and South Korea's BTS both got five nominations, Rappers, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B were nominated for 'Best US Act' for their single "WAP", while Justin Bieber and The Weekend were nominated for 'Best Canadian Act' as well as Dua Lipa for 'Best UK & Ireland Act'.
