IGP Orders Arrest Of Singer Seun Kuti

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer FPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The statement also noted that the IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

The IGP assured Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority would not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes would l be surely brought to book.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Lagos, said Lagos police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement.

Mr Kuti is the youngest child of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

In a video circulating on the internet, the singer was captured hitting an officer. The officer didn’t retaliate.

In his reaction however, Mr Kuti, on his Instagram handle, said he was the victim in the incident.

He accused the officer of trying to kill him and his family members.

“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I no dey chase clout,” he posted.

“He has apologised, and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no lose him job.”
