Nigerian-American writer, Kay Oyegun has been announced to write the script adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's 'Children of Blood and Bone' novel, with Nigerian-American filmmaker, Rick Famuyiwa directing.
Oyegun is known for her work on 'This Is Us'. She was nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for Television: News Series and won the 2019 NAACP award for 'Best Writing in a Dramatic Series'.
According to Deadline, Kathy Kennedy, the chief of Lucasfilm is in the process of getting the project produced by the production company, making it the first film the company will produce other than 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' franchises. the involvement of Lucasfilm means the project is important to Fox/Disney.
The trilogy tells a story about Zélie Adebola, a six-year-old who was left without a mother after the King of the Orisha Kingdom banned magic from the land, killing her mother and other magic practitioners.
Ten years later, Zélie alongside her brother Tzain and Princess Amari, the king's daughter in efforts to give hope to her people, attempts to restore back magic.
Meanwhile, the sequel, 'Children of Virtue and Vengeance' is set to be released December 3, 2019.
