The United State of America's Former President Barack and wife Michelle Obama made their Hollywood debut on Wednesday with a Netflix documentary 'American Factory'.
The documentary tells the story about an abandoned General Motors plant in Ohio was taken over and turned to Fuyao Glass factory by a Chinese company. The film also shows how thousands of General Motor plant workers lost their jobs and some were hired years later to work in the same plant by Fuyao Glass America.
Netflix collaborated with Higher Ground, the production company owned by the Obamas to produce 'American Factory' documentary as it's first project. Also, the deal allows Higher Ground to produce and acquire contents on Netflix.
In a promotional interview with Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, the filmmakers Obama said "We want people to be able to get outside of themselves and experience and understand the lives of somebody else,"
Speaking about the opening scenes of the documentary, "That was my background, that was my father," she said.
"We want people to be able to get outside of themselves and experience and understand the lives of somebody else,"
"One of the many things I love about this film... is that you let people tell their own story. 'American Factory' doesn’t come in with a perspective; it’s not an editorial."
The documentary has received positive reviews from The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post, among others.
