Nigeria's decorated Afrobeat star and songwriter, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu Rex, AKA Burna boy, has emerged winner of the BET Award for Best International Act. He won the latest feat on Sunday night after facing stiff competition from other artistes including Sho Madjozi (South Africa), Stormzy, Dave, (UK), Ninho and S.Pri Noir (France) and Innoss'B (DRC).

It is the second consecutive for the artiste first being that of 2019. The show was organized virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and simulcasted via CBS at L.A Live Los Angeles, USA.

The ceremony paid tributes to Kobe Bryant, Little Richard, and featured performances by Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle and Megan Thee stallion among others.

"I will like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was admission to turn the nation of Africa into a dominated nation. Now is the time to return and go back to the royalty that we were because, in order for black lives to matter, Africa must matter," the proud recipient said.

Burna and Rema were the two Nigerians nominated for the awards. Rema however lost his category Viewer's Choice: Best International Act to Zimbabwe's Sha Sha.
