U.S Veteran Actress Cicely Tyson Dies At 96

American trailblazing African-American actress, Cicely Tyson has died on Thursday at age 96, her manager, Larry Thompson revealed. “With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon,” “I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing,” Thompson said.

The honorary Oscar award winner was known for her roles in films and projects that tackled issues of racism and social justice and also popularly known for her roles in the Emmy-winning Television film “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” and “Sounder”.

She played other legendary roles portraying Black female historical figures including the activist wife of Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, Harriet Tubman.

Meanwhile, Tyson’s memoir “Just as I Am: A Memoir” was published on Tuesday.

Speaking on the memoir, Thompson said “Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life.”

“Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.”
