The Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has asked Churches, Mosques and organisations to submit their guidelines before they would be considered for reopening.

The DG NCDC made this call during the press conference of the Presidential Task Force in Abuja yesterday.

Ihekweazu said the centre received a draft of guidelines on Wednesday from the Association of Public Transport Owners of Nigeria to re-open interstate transportation while curbing the spread of the deadly virus.

He revealed that the government is set to ease the lockdown in phases in the coming weeks, urging organisations as well to come up with guidelines to fasten the process of safely reopening the country.

The NCDC boss in his statement said, “I was happy on Wednesday to receive a new set of draft guidelines by the Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association. Those are people that manage the long-distance buses that travel across the country, what we call ‘luxury’ buses.

“They drafted their own guidelines for reopening safely and sent it to us for review.

“They are also seeking our advise on the measures they are recommended and how to manage their loading centres, buses and engagements with their customers at the point when we may allow them to reopen.”

He revealed although the agency has its own guidelines and advises, however, it is willing to engage with leaders of organisation on modalities on how to reopen the economy at the same time curbing the spread of the disease.
