At Last, Niger Republic Opens Its Border To Nigeria
A week after president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lift all sanction slammed on Niger Republic by the Economic Community Of West African States, ECOWAS, the Niger Republic has reopened its border yesterday with Nigeria in the regions of Diffa, Tahoua, Maradi and Dosso. The ECOAWAS sanction that led to closure of all border between the two neighbours followed the coup d’état of July 26, 2023 that was lead by Abdoulrahman Tchiani who toppled the government of Mohammed Bazoum, the democratically elected president.
Niger Junta Suspends Military Relations With The US
Niger’s government has announced that it was breaking off “with immediate effect” its military cooperation agreement with the United States. The declaration came just a day after a senior US delegation left Niger, following a three-day visit to renew contact with the military junta that ousted the president and moved closer to Russia.

Following the renouncement of ECOWAS membership by the three junta ruled countries of the west Africa, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has revealed that there’s no compulsion in being a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tuggar made this statement suggesting to the three Sahelian states of Burkina Faso Mali, and Niger that ditched their membership of ECOWAS late January citing uncertainties with the regional bloc.
Nigeria Deploys 157 Troops to South Sudan
157 troops have been deployed to Abyei, South Sudan, for a peacekeeping assignment. The troops, mostly from Nigerian Company 2 to the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei, NIGCOY 2 UNISFA, consisted of 15 officers and 142 soldiers. Nigerian Army’s Chief of Operation, Maj.-Gen. Boniface Sinjen, who addressed the troops at their pre-deployment discuss noted that the exercise is part of the nation's contributions to global peace and security.
