Angola’s election commission announced that the ruling MPLA party won Angola’s elections, after polling 65% of the votes counted in the provisional results. The candidate of the party, Joao Lourenco now set to succeed longtime President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos who has ruled for 38 years.

Russia's ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinskiy, was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Khartoum on Wednesday, the Sudanese police said. Nigerian banker and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has donated $500,000 to Sierra Leone to help alleviate the suffering of people affected by flood and mudslide in the country. Elumelu made the donation to Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma on Wednesday during a visit to the country.
