The Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed 200 election observers across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Gen. Francis Behanzin disclosed this during the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission to Nigeria, yesterday in Abuja.
Behanzin said a pre-election fact-finding mission was carried out in November 2018 which led to the deployment of the observers to support peaceful and credible elections.
The Commissioner further implored the observers to adhere to observation codes and guidelines as well as pay keen attention to the election process.
Also Speaking, the Head of the mission, former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf urged observers to be proactive as the outcome of the mission will serve as a measuring tool to ascertain the credibility of the election.
