The Democratic Republic of Congo has on Monday announced a coalition government, seven months after President Felix Tshisekedi was sworn in.
According to the power-sharing agreement, the economic and security cabinet will be split between the camps of Tshisekedi and ex-president Joseph Kabila.
Kabila who ruled DRC for nearly two-decade will have 42 members, while Tshisekedi’s camp will provide 23 members, Binet and 42 from Kabila’s camp.
Speaking on the new government, Prime Minister Sylvestre Ilunga said the positions of Vice Prime minister, minister for foreign affairs and minister for planning will be given to females.
“The government is finally here.
The president has signed the decree and we will begin work soon.”
Tshisekedi emerged winner in Dec 30 elections which marked Congo’s first peaceful transfer of power after decades of civil conflicts and coups.
However, some have alleged that the elections were rigged to prevent Martin Fayulu from emerging as President, adding that Tshisekedi struck a deal with Kabila before results were announced.
