Alleged Slavery In Burkina Faso: Government To Negotiate Release Of Victims

The Kastina state government has disclosed a plan to secure the release of 20 of its indigenes who were alleged to have been sold into slavery by bandits to Burkinabe’s.

 

Guardian Newspaper reported that victims whom were initially victim of kidnap by the bandits were later sold to Human Traffickers in Benin Republic who later sold them to Burkina Faso slave merchants.

 

Burkina Faso being notorious, has been labelled in some instances, as a transit country and destination for persons, mostly women and children, subjected to human trafficking, specifically forced labour and prostitution.

 

It was gathered that the whereabouts of the victims were discovered when the state governor engaged a repentant bandits in and around 8 local council of the state.

 

Council areas which are; Danmusa, Kankara, Safana, Sabuwa, Batsari Dandume  Jibia, and Faskari were identified to be sharing border with Rugu Forest that is serving as the hideout to the bandits.

 

Mallam Hamza Borodo, the Special Adviser to the governor on Drugs, Narcotics and Human Trafficking while confirming the incident said, he would soon travel to Burkina Faso to negotiate the release of the 20 victims.

 

I will be travelling to Burkina Faso this weekend to negotiate their release, however, I won’t give you details until I return,” Borodo said.
