The United state government has given the Nigerian government condition upon which they will reconsider reviewing the travel ban as it affects Nigeria.

The US government insisted that once the Nigerian government has improved its data intelligence which will give the US easy access to investigate whoever is applying for the US visa through information sharing; their government may reconsider the Nigerian plea on the visa ban.

Her Excellency, Mary Beth Leonard, the United state Ambassador to Nigeria disclosed this yesterday in Abuja while on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige in his office.

Recall the United state recently included Nigeria in its travel ban restriction and six other countries like Eritrea, Sudan, Kyrgystan and Myanmar.

However, people from those countries can still visit the US as tourists.

Mrs Leonard explained that the immigration policy does not affect people currently living in the United State.

In her statement; “I think I need to clarify something for you here.

The immigrant visa ban does not affect people who are currently resident in the US.

It does not cancel the status of anyone currently in the US.

“What Secretary Pompeo said was something that was meant to be temporary.

And it is about problems with information sharing which are investigable, achievable and resolvable and we look forward to Nigeria in a very short while being able to meet those information-sharing goals so that the decision can be reviewed.

“Students’ visas are not affected by the current visa ban”.

However, on diversification policy Mrs Leonard reiterated that Nigerians with skills to export can still do so, so that they will not be seen as illegal immigrants when they visit abroad for work, saying she thinks of Nigeria admitting that Nigerians have an interesting story of being prosperous people and industrious wherever they found themselves.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour while responding said Nigeria is set to upgrade so that they can even become entrepreneurs.

Ngige added that a total of 14,000 labour inspections had been carried out of which 3,900 child labour defaulters were detected and empowered.

He, however, solicited the united state government to help Nigeria with a school that will help those areas with child labour problem.
