Former Ghana President, Jerry Rawlings is dead. The former president died after a protracted illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. The former military leader, reign from 1981 to 2001 partly Military junta and later transform into a civilian President where he served for two terms.
He resigned from the Military in 1992 and founded a political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Rawlings served as the first President of the fourth Republic in Ghana and was re-elected in 1996 for another term of office.
After leaving office, Rawlings anointed his Vice President, John Atta Mills as his successor in the year 2000.
He once served as an African Union representative to Somalia.
