A domestic passenger flight carrying 49 passengers this morning crash landed in Lake Victoria shortly before landing at Bukoba Airport due to bad weather, though no passenger is reported lost yet as a rescue operation is ongoing. According to the Tanzanian regional police commander, Williams Mwampaghale, “There was an accident involving a Precision Air plane which… crashed into water about 100 meters from the airport.”

The plane took off from the country’s capital Dar-es-Salaam to the lakeside city, Bukoba, though the officials of the airline are yet to confirm the number of passengers on board to corroborate what the local media reported.

The Police chief assures that “The situation is under control as security teams are working hard to rescue people,”

Accordingly, precision Air, one of the largest Airline companies in Tanzania has released a statement confirming the incident.

The statement said, “The rescue team has been dispatched to the scene and more information will be released in 2 hours’ time.”

This is coming five years after a similar incident happened when a Safari air with 11 tourists onboard crashed in northern Tanzania.
