A landslide has killed about 19 persons in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, residents and local officials in the region said. An official in the village of Bulwa in North Kivu province disclosed that the death toll was likely to increase.
According to the official some members of a group of women and children who had been washing laundry in a mountain stream were buried after the ground collapsed beneath them.
Meanwhile, efforts for search and rescue of more victims will resume on Monday.
The region, for many months now has suffered heavy rains which have triggered flooding and mudslides.
