Pope Calls For 'Easter' Ceasefire In Ukraine

Pope Francis on Sunday called for an Easter ceasefire in Ukraine to pave the way for peace through “real negotiation”. “Let the Easter truce begin. But not to provide more weapons and pick up the combat again – no! – a truce that will lead to peace, through real negotiation,” he told a public mass at Saint Peter’s Square. The pontiff denounced a war where “defenseless civilians” suffered “heinous massacres and atrocious cruelty”.

UK Suspends Priority Visa Application In Nigeria

The United Kingdom (UK) High Commission in Nigeria has announced the temporary suspension of priority visas for students, work, and family applications with priority now placed on applications made under the Ukraine Family Scheme. In a statement on Tuesday, titled "Temporary Suspension of Priority Visas for Student, Work and Family Applications", the High Commission disclosed that the Ukraine Family Scheme was launched in response to the humanitarian crisis arising from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Russia Versus Ukraine: Singapore Bars Its Citizens From Joining Issues

Following the hostility that erupted between Russia and Ukraine in the last two weeks, the Singaporean government has barred it citizens from partaking or travelling to Ukraine or to partake in any hostility, saying such citizens risk a jail term. Foreign Minister to the Singaporean government, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan made this known today. In his statement, “We will like to highlight that it is an offence for any person, whilst in Singapore, to wage, attempt to wage. 

Russia-Ukraine Crises: UN Suspends Russia From Human Right Council

The United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, has today moved a motion calling for the suspension of the Russian federation from the Human Right Council, HRC. According to the UN report as published on its website, the resolution received a two-third majority vote of 93 votes out of the 193 total vote aggregate as 24 countries voted against and 58 countries abstained from voting. The UN Secretary said, “The meeting marked the resumption of a special emergency session on the war in Ukraine and followed reports of violations committed by Russian forces”,

Russia-Ukraine War: Nigerian Students Trapped In Kherson Cry Out

The Nigerian students trapped in Kherson, Ukraine, have cried out lamenting that their lives are in serious danger as Russian forces have taken over the town. The Head of the International Students’ Union in Kherson, Jerry Kenny, who spoke on behalf of the students, said only a ceasefire agreement between the two warring countries could make them leave the city unhurt. In an interview with journalist on Monday, Kenny said the Kherson mayor advised the students to persuade the Nigerian government to seek a ceasefire so they could be evacuated.

Russia Brokers Cease-fire With Ukraine

Russia has declared a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine so as to open humanitarian corridors for civilians having agreed on exit routes. This declaration comes after Vadim Boychenko, Mariupol’s mayor stated that the city was under “blockade” by Russian forces after days of “ruthless” attacks. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, "From 1000 am Moscow time (0700 GMT), the Russian side declares a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to leave Mariupol and Volnovakha."
