Britain's Prime Minister, Theresa May on Wednesday presented a new set of plans for a third parliamentary vote on her Brexit deal with the European Union (EU) set for 20th March 2019.
In a proposal to be voted today by members of parliament (MPs), the British government disclosed that if the parliament does not approve the deal, it will ask the EU for an extension.
However, if parliament approves the deal, the motion states that the government would seek “a one-off extension” to Brexit “for a period ending on 30 June 2019”.
According to the government, failure to back the deal by the MPs would mean Britain would have to request a lengthier delay to enable the United Kingdom to hold the required European Parliament elections set for May 2019. Meanwhile, British MPs voted against the deal by a margin of 230 in January, also by 149 on Tuesday.
