Authorities of countries including the United States of America, France and Italy are gearing up for partial ease of lockdowns and severe restrictions on movements and other usual activities to reopen economies and business ravaged globally by the coronavirus pandemic. The daily toll in Western countries appeared to be levelling off and even declining, but fears prevail in several places of a second surge after restrictions on movement are lifted.
Coronavirus cases around the world rose to 2.9 million and deaths have doubled since April, 10 affecting nearly 203,000 people on Sunday, with well over half of them in Europe, according to an AFP tally.
Governments are planning to slowly relax restriction measures so as to avoid a sudden rush back to normal life which could be accompanied by or pose a high risk of a resurgence of the spread of the deadly virus, even as warnings from the World Health Organization, WHO proposes that recovered persons might not be immune to reinfection.
