The United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, has today moved a motion calling for the suspension of the Russian federation from the Human Right Council, HRC. According to the UN report as published on its website, the resolution received a two-third majority vote of 93 votes out of the 193 total vote aggregate as 24 countries voted against and 58 countries abstained from voting. The UN Secretary said, “The meeting marked the resumption of a special emergency session on the war in Ukraine and followed reports of violations committed by Russian forces”,
It was learned that prior to the voting, the Ukrainian Ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya called on countries to support the resolution.
He alleged that “Bucha and dozens of other Ukrainian cities and villages, where thousands of peaceful residents have been killed, tortured, raped, abducted and robbed by the Russian Army, serve as an example of how dramatically far the Russian Federation has gone from its initial declarations in the human rights domain”.
Kyslytsya added that “That is why this case is unique and today’s response is obvious and self-explanatory”.
However, the Deputy Russian Ambassador, Gennady Kuzmin call on countries of the planet to “vote against the attempt by western countries and their allies to destroy the existing human rights architecture.”
