Indonesian's Anti-drugs Chief, Budi Waseso has advocated for the engagement of ghosts as prison guards to effectively stop the sale and consumption of illicit drugs across the country's detention facilities. According to Media Indonesia, an online news platform, the drug law chief who heads the National Narcotic Agency claimed that 50 percent of drug trade was controlled by dealers from the prisons.
He explained that the developmet was being aided by compromised Prison officials who accept bribe and serve as middle men between the inmates and their contacts. He reasoned that ghost will be cost effective and more efficient since they are not susceptible to bribe. "Ghosts cannot be bribed, probably costing only incense" he said
Waseso had in 2015 suggested that prison facilities meant for drug traffickers be built on island and guarded by crocodile. His comment followed increasing cases of jail breaks and continued trafficking of drugs from the prison.
Recently, Indonesian President, Joko Widodo also ordered security operatives to shoot drug dealers if they resisted arrest or attempted to escape.
"Let us be firm, especially to foreign drug traffickers entering the country. If they resist, even a little, just shoot them, there should be no mercy" he said
Waseso however did not disclose how the authorities will engage the services of the ghosts.
