COVID-19: Israel Receives 1st Batch Of Pfizer Vaccine As UK Begins Mass Vaccination

Israel has on Wednesday announced that it has received the first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from Brussels, the country's health ministry said. According to the ministry, the first batch of vaccines arrived on a DHL cargo flight at the Ben Gurion airport, outskirts of Tel Aviv, adding that another batch is expected on Thursday. The Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu while receiving the shipment said, "I believe in this vaccine" adding that the vaccines are expected to be approved by the regulatory authorities "in the coming days."

Also speaking, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein stated that the receipt and administration of the vaccine are among the important missions of the country which will bring an end to the pandemic. Similarly, Britain commenced a mass vaccination exercise on Tuesday, administering the vaccine to patients over 80 years, at risk frontline health and social care staff.


Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has commended the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, calling it a "huge step forward in the UK's fight against coronavirus".


The UK ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine to vaccinate 20 million people, who are more at risk with a coordinated response of all four UK nations of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
