Following the military junta in Myanmar, the military has arrested and detained the country’s defector leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and other senior government officials. The military seized power this morning, less than 10 years when they handed over power to civilian government, and they have declared a state of emergency for one year. According to report, the resident worked up only to realize there was blackout in communication network, but only military TV was airing.
Soldiers in their hundreds were seen patrolling major streets in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city, and Yangon, the main city.

The BBC quoted the military saying that because of fraud surrounding the election; it was handing over power to Min Aung Haling, its commander in Chief.

The military faulted the General election conducted last year November which reported the country leader Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) won the election by a landslide.

Consequently, the leader Suu Kyi with other top government officials like President Win Myint has called on the citizens to reject the military coup.

In a statement quoted, it said, “The actions of the military are actions to put the country back under a dictatorship,” a statement from NLD quoted her to have said.

“I urge people not to accept this, to respond and wholeheartedly to protest against the coup by the military.”

The military intervened after the politicians could not organise themselves on the aftermath of the election outcome, it was sliding the country into state of anarchy, the military claimed.

The country had been under military dictatorship until year 2011 when the wave of democracy began in Myanmar.
