Some Nigerians residing in Kuwait are now at risk of being deported over failure to get their residential permit renewed. At present about 600 Nigerians are facing permit issues as some of them have their international passports less than one year to expire and Kuwait government does not accept such for the renewal of residential permit. The Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait does not issue or renew passports and due to Covid-19 restrictions in Kuwait, airports have only be opened in October 2021, since it’s closure in March 2019. So Nigerians in Kuwait have not been able to seek other alternatives.
It was revealed by some of the affected Nigerians there that residencies permit are only renewed if passports have at least 1 year validity. Most people’s passports have already expired or less than a year. So, effectively they are without valid residencies.
Once they are accosted by security officers they are likely to face deportation back to Nigeria as illegals.
