A 21 year old wife who was forced into an arranged marriage has been arrested by Pakistani police for allegedly killing 17 of her in-laws in a bid to poison the man she had been forced to marry in Pakistan. The suspect Aasia Bibi, 21 had two months into the marriage fled to her parents’ house, but was forcibly taken back to her husband.
District police chief Sohail Habib Tajak said a judge allowed the police to question the woman, 21-year-old Aasia Bibi, for two weeks to determine whether it was the woman's decision or her boyfriend had incited her to kill her husband by poisoning. "This incident took place last week and our officers have made progress by arresting a woman and her lover in connection with this murder case, which was complicated and challenging for us," Tajak told The Associated Press.
According toreports, Bibi was provided with poisonous substance by her alleged lover, Shahid Lashari, to murder her husband. But the husband missed death after which Aasia’s mother-in-law inadvertently used the tainted liquid to make Lassi – a popular traditional yogurt-based drink in the Indian Subcontinent.
This yogurt was served to 27 of Amjad’s family members who, after consumption, started to show symptoms of poisoning. A total of 17 people died while 10 others are reportedly still in critical condition
