A suicide bomber riding on a motorcycle on Friday morning struck in the Northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar killing a senior police officer and a guard detailed to him. The Senior Police officer, identified as Ashraf Noor was the acting Inspector general of Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. He was reportedly on his way to work when the incident occurred.


According to a statement from local Police Official, Zaman Khan, three other civilians sustained injuries from the blast.


Al Jazeera reports that there has been an increasing attacks targeting security operatives in the country. The report said in October, seven Police officers were killed and 22 others wounded when a suicide bomber targeted a truck conveying anti-terrorism police. Earlier in November, a senior Police Officer, Hamid Shakil was killed after a suicide bomber targeted his vehicle in the Southwestern city of Quetta.


Although no group has claimed responsibility, the country is battling the Pakistan Taliban (TTP), an umbrella organization of armed right-wing groups mainly based in the country's tribal areas, and its allies since 2007. The Pakistani authorities report that more than 3, 500 members of the armed groups have been killed so far.
