The United States House of Representatives on Wednesday impeached President Donald Trump, charging him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump is the third U.S president to be impeached in America's 243-year history.

The democrat dominated house voted 230 against the Republican's 197 on Trump's abuse of power in his with Ukraine, while, obstruction of justice got 229 votes by democrats and 198 by republicans

While addressing the house, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the impeachment process is “one of the most solemn powers this body can take.”

“No member, regardless of political or party, comes to Congress to impeach a president,” Pelosi added.

However, the 100 member U.S Senate would have to vote for the president's removal from office, or at least two-third majority of the Republican-dominated Senate would have to join the Democrats in the trial.

According to Reuters, top Republican Senator, Mitch McConnell has said there is "no chance" the senate will vote for the removal of Trump during the trial.

The allegation of abuse of power against Trump is in regards to his dealings with Ukraine on the investigation of his political rival Joe Biden as well as conspiracy to interfere in the 2016 election. While the obstruction of Congress is for directing administration officials not to comply with lawful House subpoenas for testimony relating to impeachment.
