Coronavirus: President Trump Insist On The Use Of Chloroquine

The United States President, Donald Trump has insisted that the chloroquine tablet has proved to be effective in the treatment of the COVID-19 shall be approved to combat the menace.

 

The President who reiterated that the malaria drug, having shown efficacy should be with immediate effect be put to use to arrest the cause of the global pandemic.

Trump made this statement through his tweet on Saturday saying, “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN (an antibiotic), taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game-changers in the history of medicine,”

The Superpower president added that “be put in use IMMEDIATELY.”

“What do we have to lose?” he later said at a news conference at the White House.

Accordingly, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a statement confirming it has been working in tandem with government agencies and academic research centres in investigating the efficacy of the said drug.

It reiterated that it will jointly “determine whether it can be used to treat patients with mild-to-moderate Covid-19.”

In a related development, the German Institute for Tropical Medicine has also disclosed plans to hold a human trial for chloroquine.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the Lagos state government said progress is being made to conduct a clinical trial to confirm the effectiveness of the malaria drug.

Nigeria now has 26 confirmed cases for the coronavirus.
