Following another daily record of COVID-19 cases, President of the United States, Donald Trump finally wore a facemask in public for the first time since the pandemic while he visited veterans at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center outside Washington on Saturday. Trump had in the past said he was not going to wear a face mask in order to stop the speed of the pandemic, mocking rival Joe Biden for wearing a mask. In April, he said, "I don't think I'm going to be doing it, wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens - I just don't see it."
Speaking at the medical center, Trump said "I think when you’re in a hospital, especially in that particular setting where you’re talking to a lot of soldiers and people that in some cases just got off the operating tables, I think it’s a great thing to wear a mask,"
"I’ve never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place," he added.
The US recorded 66,528 new cases in 24 hours, the highest recorded cases in a day. The country has a total of 3.29 million confirmed cases with 137 thousand deaths. However, 970 thousand people have recovered and been discharged.
