Following the attack on Capitol Hill by hoodlums in the United States, Pope Francis has today Urged Americans to shun violence, seek reconciliation and “Protect democratic values”.
Pope in his statement while addressing the congregation today said, “I repeat that violence is self-destructive, always. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost,”.
According to the clergy, dozens of people have been charged in response to contain the violence that erupted at Capitol Hill last Wednesday; with the FBI calling on the general public to help them identify the culprits for possible prosecution as the internet has pictures of the participants.
During the riot, four persons lost their lives including a police officer.
The Catholic leader has called on the authorities in the country and to the entire population to be responsible in other to calm the situation, promote national reconciliation and protect democratic values that are rooted in the American society.
According to the clergy, American soil was shaken by the siege on its sacred institution that all Americans revered, but call on all to apply wisdom to forestall further occurrence.
He said he was praying for those who lost their lives in the violence, in such “a dramatic moments” while urging all Americans to “keep alive a culture of encounter, a culture of caring, as the master way to build together the common good”. (Reuters)
